Los residuos se han convertido en un problema, han aumentado en la medida en que los patrones de consumo han cambiado y aumentado, produciendo contaminación, afectando la salud de las persona y del planeta. Aunado a esta problemática esta que las reservas naturales, las materias primas y fuentes energéticas disminuyen causando daños y desequilibrios ambientales y sociales.
Al Reutilizar se disminuye la cantidad de residuos. En el pasado se reutilizaba bastante, sin embargo esto ha disminuido debido a los nuevos hábitos de consumo que se promueven desde la cultura de consumo, como son usar y botar.
La cultura del ‘usar y botar’ genera más residuos de los que podemos gestionar

• Requiere menos recursos naturales y menos energía que reciclar.
